Use Green Products only!

The world is moving towards a greener future and hence all major brands are focusing on products that consume less and by the way, pollute less. If you are going to buy a car, then apart from checking its mileage and other specifications, you should also check for its fuel combustion technique and its emission limit. But these things are take care by the government itself in most of the countries.

Then what can you do to help the planet? You can buy green products. But if you are asking about the greener product details, then here are some,

  • Use solar charger at least for charging hand held electronics
  • Reduce the use of Cardboard which make up 18 to 26% of the landfill materials.
  • Use low flow shower heads
  • Use energy efficient LED bulbs
  • Use Organic Pesticides
  • Use bio degradable trash bags
  • Use Bamboo plates/Utensils for functions

Tips to reduce everything..

You can Reduce,

  • Your Consumption

You can make a difference by reducing the amount of resource you use and consume. Reducing the consumption will reduce the amount of waste that you produce.

  • Your energy consumption
  1. Always turn off unwanted/unused lights
  2. Use natural lighting wherever possible
  3. Use low wattage equipment
  4. Switch off the computer when leaving the office
  5. Buy only energy efficient products
  • Your waste

You can just reduce your waste in all your doing. Here are few ideas,

  1. Print anything only if it is really needed
  2. Use screen to edit. Not paper
  3. Try to use e-mail for all mail communication
  4. If you print, then use double side
  5. Circulate the documents instead of making individual copies
  6. Change the margin in your document to .75 from 1.25 inches. This will increase the paper usage by 5%.

Thus by following these above said steps, you can reduce the things that you are consuming everyday. You can think that it is not going to make any difference. But it will make the difference if all are following it.

School Teachers task!

Here is one more method to go green. It is by teaching our children the importance of going green and the impacts if we did not follow that strictly. This work can be easily done at school. Yes, almost 95% of children are attentive in the school and they consider what taught in school is right than they hear from outside world. So to build a brighter and greener future, it is important to teach all the children to go in a greener way.

School teacher can teach the students about zero waste products, recycling, composing, etc. You can also teach them to prepare the natural cleaner using vinegar and water, can ask them to calculate the carbon emission in the trip of reaching school from their home and vice versa.

You can teach them all and more than that, you can get from them above what you have taught them. Yes! you can ask each and every student about any greener ideas and I assure that you will be given hell lot of ideas and few will be worth of implementing all over the school or in the city.

So teachers, It is in your hands to teach the future generation about the green. All the best.

Shift to LED lights!

This my small light bulb will last for more than 25 years! Just think about the last instance of climbing in the ladder and changing those fused out bulbs. This is one oLEDf the most irritation work and it is boring too to change those burned out bulbs often. But think about a situation where you don’t want to go and change the bulb for more than 25  years. It will be good right? Yes it is possible by replacing all your present normal bulbs by the Light Emitting Diodes (LED). This will help you to be free from changing the burned out bulbs and keeps your lobby bright all the time.

This LED is not only maintenance free one, but also a cost effective bulb that ever made. This is a kind of energy efficient and “set it and forget it” kind of bulb for your family. LED bulbs can be used to replace any of your classic old bulbs forever and your 60 watt light bulb can be easily replaced by the 6 watt LED and that too gives the same amount of light energy in your living room or wherever it maybe.

These LED’s are made up of recycled materials and it will easily fit in all your normal household lighting fixtures. These LED’s are also dimmable so that you can set a mood in your bedroom. You can say that CFL bulbs can be used as a replacement for those classic bulbs. It may be energy competent to the old bulbs but it have low sturdiness and it will male some people to feel queasy if those bulbs are around them for a considerable amount of time. The mercury present in the CFL lamps can pollute 6000 gallons of water if they are busted. And also you can fix it and forget it.

Fact: If all American’s household 60W light got replaced by 6W LED, then we can save $1.4 Billion of electricity per annum.

Easy way to make natural pesticide!

Before few months, we have planted a garden in our backyard and we were very happy to make it lively. I was very happy to see the first full grown snow pea. But along with the plants in the garden, there are some of the unavoidable guests. Yes there are many garden pests came and they have given additional decoration to our plants by drilling holes on it.

So I have planned to destroy them in a natural way. Yes, I planted marigold and hot peppers. But it still need some more vigorous action to destroy them. So I took the neem oil out of my stockpile. I have read somewhere that these neem oils have tremendous power to destroy the pests and will act like a natural insecticide, miticide and fungicide.

Neem oil have the following features: Great insecticide to destroy mites, insects, whitefly, etc. Controls fungal diseases, black spots, rust, etc. It is very easily and quickly bio degradable with the help of sunlight within few weeks into the soil. They are not toxic too to be mixed up in the soil. I have mixed rosemary and lavender to the neem oil to improve the smell as rosemary and lavender are also a kind of pesticides.

Here is the formula: 1 gallon water + 2 tablespoon neem + 1 teaspoon rosemary + 1 teaspoon lavender. You can also mix couple tablespoon of phosphate free fluid dishwashing liquid. Mix it well and spray on the branch of the plants through sprayer. The Sprayco spray bottles are made of recycled materials can be used and that will offer jobs for handicapped persons.
